"Just Around the Corner"

2024 - Acrylic on Canvas 48"x48"

"Just Around the Corner" is the last piece of a three part series of work called "Peace in the Storm". This painting hints at the closeness of a brighter future. Influenced by the feeling of "the neighborhood's local spot", it is meant to be welcoming and inviting to the viewer. Togetherness and a sense of belonging are also promoted in its story.

During the end of 2023 to most of 2024, I was healing from some painful losses in my life while also adjusting to so much change. This series showcases moving through the hardship of life with grace, holding onto hope, and finding peace. This series was not preplanned and naturally came together on its own.

"Flourish"

2023 - Acrylic on Canvas 24”x48” (SOLD)

"Flourish" illustrates the freedom in overflowing life. It is meant to promote wonder, curiosity, and innovation. It showcases the beauty in harmony between the wild and imaginative infrastructures.

This piece was part of LO’s "Lumulutang Lupa - Floating Earth" Solo Exhibition.

"Laro Tayo"

2022 - Acrylic on Canvas and MIxed Media “36 x 48”

"Laro Tayo" translates to "Lets Play" in the Tagalog language (Philippines). This piece is about connection, innovation, and thankfulness. Basketball is a cherished game in the Philippines. Many Filipinos would create their own hoops out of anything and some even play without shoes. I saw this first hand every time I visited and saw the communities built from it. Regardless of the lack of proper equipment, people always made a way to play, and with a smile too. It is an ode to my Filipino American Heritage.

This piece was part of my first Solo Exhibition "Pader ng Sining - Wall of Art"

"Tatlong Bahay Kubo"

2022 - Mixed Media 2022 8"x 8" set of 3

This set is based on the traditional Philippine home, often found in the countryside. It could be translated as "3 Nipa Huts". This trio reflects on a sense of home, belonging, heritage, uniqueness, and identity. Each separate piece has a base made from traditional Philippine fabric gifted by my grandmother. The illustrated houses themselves appear to be floating from the base to highlight their individuality. It is an ode to my Filipino American Heritage.

*There is a famous Philippine children's song that sings about the famous structure and teaches you all about the plants that grow all around it.

This trio set was part of my first Solo Exhibition "Pader ng Sining - Wall of Art"

"Closer Than We Think"

2024 - Video 58 secs (click for video link)

"Closer Than We Think" is the second piece of a three part series of work called "Peace in the Storm". This piece is a reflection of life, death, and beyond it. These chosen clips juxtapose the melancholy events that occurred around them. It is a reminder of the beauty and joy of being in the present. These moments are the conscious breaths when we forget to breathe.

During the end of 2023 to most of 2024, I was healing from some painful losses in my life while also adjusting to so much change. This series showcases moving through the hardship of life with grace, holding onto hope, and finding peace. This series was not preplanned and naturally came together on its own.

“Lumulutang Lupa - Floating Earth”

2023 -Mixed Media 6’x8’

"Lumulutang Lupa" is of the Tagalog language (Philippines) and is translated in English as  “Floating Earth”.  It is an interactive piece to encourage change in perspective, taking a closer look into the details, celebrating the beauty of community, and lifting up the positive relationship between nature and humanity. It is designed to be accessible to all people and will encourage the engagement of the senses. Its visual design is shown as a floating island-like community, showing various landscapes, and proof of life. It is made primarily with wood and collected objects. It is currently displayed in Denver, CO. This piece was the focal point of my "Lumulutang Lupa - Floating Earth" Solo Exhibition.

"Lumulutang Lupa" is Tagalog for "Floating Earth" in English. I created this translation as it expresses a Filipino American approach mixing American "slang" with the Tagalog language.

*The actual correct and formal way to translate it is "Lumulutang ang Lupa".

“Unveil”

2023 - Mixed Media 23”x16”

Imagine after a long trek you pull back the last curtain of greenery and you come upon a new land. You are at the border of a captivating discovery. "Unveil" is the visual representation of the first look of a change in mindset, a new way of thinking, and perhaps a fresh beginning. The game of basketball is a consistent theme in my work for many reasons. One significant reason is that to progress, one must aim higher than oneself.

This piece was part of my "Lumulutang Lupa - Floating Earth" Solo Exhibition.

“Banig ni Lola”

2013 - Mixed Media (Wood, Ceramic, Screen print)

Approx. 3.5' x 4'

This exhibit as a whole encapsulates family, humility, hospitality, and love. It also represents change and rootedness in oneself.

This was dedicated to my "lola" which means grandmother in Tagalog (Philippines). A "banig" is a thin woven mat made of leaves (often palm). It was mainly used for sleeping. When I was a child my grandparents came to live with us from the Philippines. I remember my grandmother would lay out her "banig" next to the queen sized bed in their room. I asked her one day why she didn't sleep on the mattress. She told me she was just more familiar with the "banig" and it reminded her of home. So my siblings and I would sleep there too from time to time. That memory is what inspired each piece in this exhibit alone and all together.

"Fresh Air"
